Contents of the interviews were tape-recorded with participant consent.

Results:A total four major themes and nine sub-themes were emerged: a disorder which reversed one¡¯s life; changed radial range of life; shifting perspectives of the body; reconstructing values of beings. Each theme appeared to be interrelated as time passes. Findings indicated that it was capable of a care for the human being and of living with the new condition.

Conclusion:Findings indicated that participants¡¯ physical and psychosocial needs were fully unmet. Patients with permanent colostomy were particularly vulnerable and expressed a need for more information on knowing what to expect after surgery.
